The Art of Movie Watching

The art of watching a movie by my standard

Alone
1. Chances of getting a good seats is much easier
2. fexliabilty of time
3. perfect concentration on the show
4. no after movie entertaintment(usually head home)

Groups
1. Damm difficult to get good seats
2. hard to coordinate what movies to catch(some might have seen it...etc)
3. always some form of after movies activities

Date
1. Must see a show that fits both peoples' taste
2. after a while movies seem to be part of a standard date package.(boring)
3. may lack concentration on the show
3. after movie activities

WarLord

WarLord
A Story of War, Brotherhood and Frame! Setting, somewhere in the Qing Dynasty.
Jet Li a fallen general who escape death by faking his death. Andy Lau a Bandit King who rob from the army to feed his village. Takeshi a simple man who follow the code of Brotherhood closely.
The movie is not a slow pace movie I promised you that. A lot of emotion is estranged from the begining to the end. From a simple unknow falling in love to becoming sworn brothers and to commit adultry and massive killing of innocent.
If anyone read 108 margin heroes will understand some of it plot are very similair to this movie.
This is way better than any other chinese movies of this genre.
Takashi really put the chinese phase in action, 兄弟如手足,老婆如衣服。
Guys will understand this. For gals it maybe too bloody but think like a guy and you will understand it.
I give it a 4.7 stars out of 5.

National Treasure 2

National Treasure 2

Another Walt Disney show for the Xmas! Yippee

If you ever watch Part 1 you should know how good it was. I remember when they were showing part 1 it was with the Da Vinci Code. Same kind of movie but National Treasure pawns Da Vinci Code it all it mystery and code.

Now back to the current one, Nicolas Cage is back as Prof Gates.(Shld be this spelling) along with all the orginal cast. The overall effect is still good but it less thrilling compare to part one. But it better to place your money on this one rather than Golden Compass!

Spoiler ahead

What this installment lacks is the amount of clues leading to the next clue and then to the Treasure. In part one we see the begining with finding of Charlet(the ship), then to the Scroll of Indenpenence(which they stole), then to the Liberty Bell(Led by a clue from a 5 dollar bill if i'm not wrong) to get the specs(which allows them to read the message behind the scroll) and then to Wall Street where the treasure lies. And throughout the great chases by FBI and other Treasure Hunters.

In the Book of Secrets, it started with the code word Death, then to the twin desk, the President Book and to Mount Rushmore(where the treasure is hidden). It lacks the clues depth compare to one! The chase scence was not that impactful but not bad. However, I still don't understand why the City of Gold can be hidden inside Mount Rushmore? Should it not be like somewhere at South America? Where I'm not that great in US history. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

If there should be a Part 3, I have a strong feeling that it got to do with page 47 in the President Book!

Addiction

I have always been a closet guy when it comes to affairs of the heart. But recently after admitting my feeling I have came to notice that I have changed. I have started to use words that I once think is mushy.

Guess when the heart starts to think rather than the brains logic and shame just get thrown out of the window.

I have been thinking about her a lot day in day out. It just show how addictive love can be even if has yet to be confirm. Currently, I'm still unfamiliar with the rules of courting. I tend to believe that courting is comes from within(it built into us). It could be that I activate it at a later stage that it is rusty hahaha. But nonetheless, I'm enjoying the process regardless if it will bear fruit or not. Well it will be better if it does bear fruits!

Leap of Faith

Today I enjoy myself greatly again. It has been like 3-4 years I have not really step into East Coast Park and look at the changes there. The arcade is no longer there and Mac has expanded it operations with a new look!

The morning weather was great had one of the best breakfast meal and a great stroll down the park. Then off we go to parkway. Parkway is one place I have never been for almost close to a decade. Yes this is not a joke! Think the last I went there was when I was still schooling in St Pats.

Being with her the whole day as made me realized how fun it can be just doing nothing but being with her. Every now and then when I think of her I will either bump into her or get her text. Is that a sign? Recently, when I have a close encounter with a old crash I had, I thought I have yet to cut the emotion away. However, this causes a guilt when I started thinking of her. A guilt of betrayed thinking of my old crash. So does 1+1 gives me 2. I have no idea.

As a leap of faith I'm going to text her with my thoughts. This is one big jump for me! Let's hope I land on my legs and not on my face!

Company Xmas Party

On a friday night we have a company xmas bash. A first for me! It was at Double O a club somewhere at the Mohammad Sultan road. However, not all from the team was able to make it due to the business unit we support back in London. There was lucky draw, free food and of course free flow of Alcohol for a limited time. I'm not a big fan of alcohol so I really limit myself on the amount of drinks i can take. Most of the guys have some self control. Maybe it was the loud music and the spirit of partying that the ladies really let go and enjoy themselves. In the end, most of them had a little visit to the ladies to do some "Stomach Cleaning". The night ended by sending individual ladies home. The latter part was not something one called pleasant. But the process before the great puke was enjoyable.

I have some more leave and will be enjoying it this week. Only one day of work hahaha that is so cool.

Enchanted

Just saw this movie today. It a great movie from Disney once again! If you ever wonder what happen to the 2-D but great story like Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Little Mermaid. Well fret no more. This show has that in it. This show will once invoke memories of those classic.

You will see little cute animals surrounding the heroine just like Sleeping Beauty. The classic of leaving a shoe behind from Cinderella. A real life dwarf(a very short moment) just like Snow White.
Also the classic usage of poison apple!

Beside all these, you will also see a re-make of King Kong climbing the empire state building move.

The cast are not extremely handsome or beautiful but they do bring out the magic of Disney. The real hero of this show for me is our little chipmunk, Pete. Pete, always save the day with his quick lighting move and as well as his "weight". Now who said a little weight is bad!

To sum it all up this is not a fairy tale but a Walt Disney Movie!

Good Luck Chuck

A new movie out in town soon.

It about a dentist who in every other girls eye is a good luck charm. Any gals who sleep with him and date another man will get marry, so the story goes. And back to basic which lady does not want to get marry? Almost everyone wants to get marry. So all the ladies(I mean every kind of ladies) willingly throw themselves into this arm just to have a, how should I put it a "quickie" with him. Warning! in this part of the film lot of nudity are flash across that gigantic screen.(That why it R21 and not NC16)

Now here comes a sweet clumsy but beautiful gal(Jessica Alba) into Chuck's life. To Chuck that is love at first sight and he tries all means to get to her. The courtship is where all the laughter starts coming in. The part where she sends those sharp tools into Chuck back was a good laugh. But the rest of the laughs can be anticipated so it not that very funny compare to Hitch.

Just a personal view, why does Jessica Alba partake in this movie. I mean even if she does not bare her asset but it feels like a soft porn to me with laugh that is.

This will not be a good first date movie. It not a wise move, you rather bet your first date money on StarDust.

StarDust the Novel Vs The Movie

Just finished the short novel. As expected there are more characters in the book compared to the movie.

~Spoiler ahead for movie goers~

The big difference in the book and the movies are

Captain Shakespeare plays only a small part in book(about 3 pages), the movie took it farther and developed the character and giving him a name. Which I enjoy watching.

The candle was not given by Trsitran's Mom based on the Novel but the little hairy man which also tied the knot b/w Tristran Father and Mother.

The Witch Queen did not die in the novel. She did not hunt down the star for the star heart no longer belongs to her as she has given it away. Therefore, there is no need to hunt down the star anymore. Good for a children book. However, in the big screen we need the villain and their diabolic way to makes thing interesting.

Something I did not expect from the end in the Novel was that Tristran and Yvaine did not have children in the end. For Yvaine was not able to have one due to her being a star(why?) and she out live Tristran in the end. She rule the land after Tristran left the world. A Sad quiet ending for my part. Luckily, the movie ending was much blissful than the book.

Now I just borrow the Golden Compass to read and I'll be catching that movie in Dec!

Mid week -Wed

Today a lot of things happen at work. Not to me but in my old team. It seems that requester are getting more cocky even if they are new and they dont listen and cut you off. It is so rude to cut people off when people are trying to help you with your request. Can't they understand that they must help us to help them. If they make things difficult for us, it will only make things difficult for them too for we can't process the work in the end. They never see the objective in the end but get so hang up by the process.

I wonder if I were the one dealing with this issue will I still be the customer service attitude or will I return fire back? Maybe one day someone will tried that on me and that will be a great blog to write about.

Another issue I have my attention on my old team is the teamwork. It seem that there is a breakdown and unhappiness is setting in fast. Again it is easy to just look at the fault of someone and keep attacking on that. Knowing the solution and using the right way to archive it is two separate issue. I believe that they know what the solution should be but maybe the way to archive it is wrong. Well what give me the right to say that since I am not in their shoes or in their team anymore. Frankly, I dont think I have the right. But I know that the old team I was in was a good team and I also believe that the current team are all capable people who can do the job. It is just that the process of archiving it has changed.

Well I pray that this will not have any spill over effect and cause any tension in any friendship all of us has forge over this short but meaningful 10 months.

Fearful Monday

First day of work after my small break and the amount of work is terrible! I start work today without even taking any small break until lunch and thereafter till 8pm+. One of the worst day I ever have.

Finally saw my new colleague but we never even chat. I wonder why? Was he too busy or was I too busy? Did I appear unfriendly or was it my face? Lol I wonder why I did not even initial introduction at all? Well they is always another day or another day after that. There must be a time where we must make small talk.

Anyway as I said ended work at 8pm+, had dinner with my colleague and friend at LPS. Had a few small talk about work, places I should visit for my holiday in China and what has been happening in both our life. It a good end for a busy day.

Oh yes I'm enjoying StarDust the book. It a great book to keep me off the internet.

Sunday ending

Another day meeting with all my Uni friends and have some simple games at Mind's cafe. Great place to relax and have some simple games but noisy game. Even we are not the loudest in the cafe we did contribute some noise pollution.

For the past four days I have been meeting a lot of my close friends from Uni. It is a great feeling and I have done almost all what I want to do for the week. Only one activity that I missed out. Jogging, I promised myself I shall job for at least 2km but I have yet to even start wearing my jogging shoes.

But the end of my short leave ended in a bad note. My PC or to be exact my MSN was affected by a virus/Trojan. I have no idea how it came about but I know might have affected my friend indirectly. To be the caused of a problem to someone else is such a SIN even if it is unintentional.

Well back to work tomorrow.

Average Sat

Sat was not a very exciting Sat, guess all great height needs a short break before a new peak can be obtain. So far the short leave has given me great satisfaction. So far i'm able to catch up with a few old friends and caught a few movies.

Yesterday morning started out with house viewing with a friend. She was looking for a room to rent near my place and this particular place was just near my house. So we went but I was really surprise at how small and stuffy the room is. There was no window at all and if you close the door it like a prison cell. To make matter worse there was no such thing as a living room. To sum it up it was really a very small room. In my own capacity, I will not encourage her to take it even if it near her future workplace. It is not very conducive for living. I hope she will find something better.

After that I went to meet my Uni friends for Lunch at Novena. They brought me to this famous Chicken rice stall. The food was not bad and we have an enjoyable lunch catching up with each other life. After that we carry on our chit chat at TCC. Great chairs they have there really enjoy the comfort.

I ended the night with a visit to Clarke Quay with two of my friends. I felt a little out of place there as it seem to be a ladies night for the two gals. Why am I even there, on the invitation from one of them? I should play smart and decline the offer. Why the odd feeling? I just had this feeling that they want share their little secrets with each other. It might be odd but it was not a bad night. Enjoy an eye feast of Halloween Costume in the area. Quite a number of people dress up for Halloween Party in the area. Some were simple while only a few were spectacular.

That all for last night. Will post what happen in my life today before the night is over by the stroke of midnight.

where is my Star?

The day was slow, took two nap today each about 1 hrs plus. Nothing great, had plans to go to Lunar tonight.

However, what I had in mind did not become reality. Why because as I was surfing around I discover that StarDust is screening today. At the moment of impulse I went online and booked a ticket. This has thrown all my initial plans off tack.

StarDust was Great! The cast was good and the storyline excellent! The story line is simple, about a simple town boy(not that simple since he is not pure human) trying to win the heart of his fair maiden. He promises her that he will get her anything in the world and the girl wants a star. This search opens up an amazing world. Where the unicorn roams freely and Witches is a norm. The lead actor and actress are not big name but they are good. Veteran actress Michelle Pfeiffer was great in her role as the villain while Robert De Niro small part makes up the laughter. The lead actress was beautiful when she glows. I'm still mesmerized by the glow she emits which enhances her beauty even more. This is one fantasy where there is not much blood spill all over the area or any long speeches.

Now when I look up in the skyI wonder when will my Star descent into my life and lit it up. But alas in a city like Singapore where all building are light up in the night. My heavenly Star has been blocked out by such earthly light.

Havoc Thursday

Yes it the beginning of my fun week! The day begging with a class, boring it might be it failed to dampen my holiday mood. I had my half day off today and tomorrow a full day. It a long weekend for me! Yippee

Went to catch a movie at my fav. cinema at Cathy. Before that I took a slow stroll back in School. Something looked the same to me but they are subtle differences too. More student stalls are being setup around school. More student population as well. Not much familiar faces around beside one or two from my batch who came back for lunch.

Then to the movie! The Seeker: Darkness is coming. A fantasy in a modern realm. A novel concept but not my cup of tea. Fantasy should still be kept in the realm of fantasy and never to mixed with modern living. It is not a very appealing movie for me a hardcore fantasy lover. But it did not dampen my mood for it been such a long while that I make time just for myself.

After the movie, I was about to go home to end the day. Yet a pleasant surprise befall onto me. A friend called to ask about some location near my house. This conversation leads me to another thing and in the end I ended back in the Sch Library. Haha I smuggle myself into the library by borrowing other student's pass. Poor security or maybe I still have the student look. Anyway had a long chat with her and enjoy this out of the air conversation. Then we had dinner opposite Sch of Econs,ie the Kopitiam. Another long conversation over dinner. After dinner I walk her her home to see what the new SMU Hostel looks like. The place was once where my friend used to stay a good 7 years or more ago.

After that I walk to Bugis and visit yet another fav. place of mine Kinokuniya. Got myself a Manga and went home. All is good and the Monkey is pleased with his day.

Oh another surprise was that Dow did not close up in the deep Red last night. If you recalled my last post, Dow was -190+ before I went to bed. So how well Dow perform tonight? Just have to wait and see.

Cheers!

New bloodbath

Wow Massive sell down now in Dow. This might be a new crisis but what is the caused of this?Sub-prime issue? Oil hike and Turkey War? Or major market players are trying to force helicopter Ben to cut fed rate again? I see it as the later. We know how powerful a cut in interest rate can be. Please re-visit your econs 101 or see the last Fed rate cut and it impact. Anymore rate cut can hurt the dollar and may lead to long term issue.

Closer back home, the impact of Sembawang Marine in the marine sector can been seen. Especially true to Cosco Corp, where they dump 32 million worth of share to cover their backside. A stupid move in my sense for Cosco Corp is a stock that can hit $10 end of the year. After market today Cosco announce that it has secure US$1.36 Billion worth of contract. Sembawang should have hold and leverage on Cosco Power. A few people has their eye on YangZhiJiang as the next Cosco in the making. Currently, YZJ seem to have some similarities as Cosco 2 years ago.

That all folks

Dinner!

Again another day of last minute booking on my side. Trader started sending down bulk booking to us at 4pm++. Took me until 7.15pm to managed to wiggle out of all my work and meet my friend.

I made her wait for almost half an hour and that is so bad. For someone who is particular with time making people wait is like a Sin. But being as understanding as she is, she ask me to take my time. Such a rare comment to hear from a lady.

Had dinner at Hans and then sat down have a light chit chat and off we go. As tomorrow is a working day it not good to stay too late.

Overall, the day ended with a good note

Monday Blue NAY!

Today the day start with a shower, shower of blessing is the word to use.
Line manager is not in and we have total freedom and control. Without stress and time taken to explain all our action we are able to get work done quickly. I will not say my line manage is of no use but let just put it that way it better for us to work independently unless require.

Singapore market with a bloodbath of -100+ points. It expected but it did tried to recover dropping only 80++points. However, after lunch Wham! HSI dropped a big 4 digit pulling STI along with it. Now all eyes are on DJ tonight and so far it went to a drop of 30 odd to 100 odd. A roller coaster ride.

Sunday, October 21, 2007

Boring Sunday

Nothing to do on a Sunday. Guess I can't keep having fun like yesterday. Nothing much to blog guess will take a break for now.

Wonderful Sat

The day start with a shock. Wall street tumbles with Dow falling over 300 plus point. Think it is the worst I ever seen. Last night before I go to bed it was just hovering around negative 200 points. Monday will be a bloodbath for all Asia market, unless Shanghai and HK perform some kind of stun. Well this might be the opportunity for some people to go in and pick up cheap stock.

The afternoon started with a nap and then off to Raoul warehouse sales. It was not a good sales compare to the previous one during the Great Singapore Sales. It is really fishing for your clothes, you can't try out the shirt, there is not much design left. And if there is the problem of size comes in. In the end I got 2 new shirt not bad at all.

Then movie with my friend, a sweet gal from my University. Went to Bakerzin, had pasta and some tapas desserts. We watched Death at a Funeral, a British comedy. It a slow start but the laugh factor went up in the middle. Not you usual America comedy, quite refreshing if I may said so. Had a long chat after the movie, catch up with each other work and what are our next career path to take. Chat till almost midnight, time really flies when we are having fun.

All and all it has been a great day!

Firday

Today is the darkest day in the world of Traders.

Remember remember 19 Oct 1987, the infamous Black Monday. The curse has revealed itself
on 19 Oct 2007, Friday. Dow has dropped almost 200 points and this will have it effect on Monday. With Oil peaking due to Turkey action on Iran and Bond price went up. It's one deadly cocktail.

Monday will be a test for most traders, if they have the foresight to go in and pick up cheap stock. The bull is not done with it run yet, it is just taking a short break for it's next bust.

Work today was good, Volume was good and under control. I managed to leave office at 6.45pm and had a great time with my friends. Dinner, dessert and some small talk.

Mid-week

Mid-week update

Mood has picked up a fair bit in comparison with last week.

An interesting fact, that I have seen in my workplace. Everyday I see at least 2 pregnant ladies in the office. This makes me think that either our married female are very productive in their life or our company has one of the best pro-life benefits in town. So far on my floor alone there are like 4 of them and 3 of them are from the same department. I think there is another 2 on another floor.

Well just an interesting fact from my office. Beside this there is nothing much exciting or interesting going on.

Tried

I still suffering form the effect of a long hour yesterday.

So nothing much to blog for now.

EOD Monday

End of Day Monday!

This long day is much better than the whole of last week. Reason being I was in my element. It could have been better but I shall not be greedy.

What will tomorrow be like? Well it too early to say for now. Now is the time to hit the bed.

Fresh Start

A fresh start for the week! I'm not holding any high hopes for the week, but if anything nice does come along the way it will be amplify.

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Sunday slightly better

Woke up today feeling a little better. Better from what, from the abyss of work and personal issue. Maybe this is my rebound.I even make the effort to go back to office to settle some work related issue. Guess that should means something good.

Hopefully this little ray of hope will not burn our tomorrow. Cause if it does, that means I'm going to fall deeper into the abyss and it will be a long climb back to the top. I hate this me, I must break free

I will still be my cheerful self at work but the weight of my internal strife will be there....

Warning Sign

Danger ahead! Waking up on this Sat morning I feel nothing but empty. I was really hoping that the weekend will bring back some life in me but it seem that the long weekday has it spillover effect to my weekend.

The sign of job crisis seems more real now. The feeling of going to work and be a robot for the whole day is so real. The only thing that stop me are the laughter I share with my friends at work. They are not just colleagues but friends I learned to trust and work together with.
I pray that this will give me strength to carry on and see me through till next year.

Guess I can't always be happy all the time with life. Time to wise up and embrace life experience

Out of Juice

This week is a terrible week for me. The hours are long and it is so frustrating to keep up with all these work. I hate Apac hours compare to my Euro hours in the past.

In Apac it is much easier to do OT and not just an additional 1 hour but more. While back in Euro one hardy have do any OT.

Such disruption is not good for Work-Life balance, for a few times I have to call my friends to inform them i'll be late or take a rain-check. This really suck the life out of me and I wonder if I can still stay afloat.

A lot of things have happen in my life and may have added my negativity towards working in my Current Role. I really had hope to move back to my old role, but it seem again my team leader have decided before even asking about my opinion. There goes the formality!

Workplace Relationship

As the topic suggest, what do you all think about this?
Is it a good thing or is this doom to fail in the begining?

Well some thinking before I hit the bed. Nite nite to all

End of Day

The day is coming to an end and I'm looking forward to weekend and nothing more!

Morning

A great morning and let's hope it will not end in a dark side. Almost half of pple I have get to know in my company has jumped ship. This "Epidemic" is spreading like the common cold, once someone has it and is infected(ie jump ship) other will followed. I'm caught between leaving to get more exposure in this banking industry and staying for more Vitamin "M".

Well for now this dreadful viral has yet to infect on my team. But I can see the symptom manifesting itself. Will it affect me too, it hard to say for now....

Off to work again...

Danger Blue week ahead

There is really no zest in work for me today. And I foresee this will last for the week. I do not know why, maybe I am getting bored with the job? But luckily my long leave is around the corner. Let hope I can get a very good recharge then.

Nothing to blog about today....

Monday disaster

The monday blues strike hard and fast. One trade was missing from our mailbox but not our personal mailbox. What happen I do not know? But hey someone has to take responsibility. But the trader did not blow his top that is strange. Usually he does maybe my lucky star is shinning brightly.

However, after going through this my mood went down the drain. I think I'm more of a burden to my colleague, he has to baby sit me to ensure all trades are booked. Gosh this is so bad of me, am I losing my touch or is it just this day.

Lucky the day did not end that bad. Went back to school to play my fav game, floorball! This time round not much old birds came down. But I managed to score a few goals, not the best but it gives me some comfort that I did something

Sunday, October 7, 2007

Boring Sun

This is a boring Sunday. There is nothing to do, took nap and wasted my whole afternoon surfing the net. Planing for my Shanghai trip and hotel booking.

That about my boring life on a Sunday. Should have make it much more interesting but just can't find the zest in me to do anything

Saturday, October 6, 2007

My Sat

Last nite I really let myself go beyond my drinking limited. As many as you all have known I dont drink much but last nite I drink fast and furious. I blame that on the music and company that I have for my stupid act. I had my just deserve this morning with a headache. Can't think without this pain in the head.

Went out in the afternoon to catch I pronounce you Chunk and Larry with my Colleagues. The movie was great, lot of laughter from the beginning till the end. Adam Sandler outdid himself this time. The last few movies of his was lame with a weak plot. But this time round this movie is one of his best. Maybe some credit should go to Kevin James. He is the guy from Hitch. Of course we can't leave out the Babe Jessica Biel. Lucky Sandler get to fondle her breast.....!

Well after that we are suppose to go for dinner but things did not go as planned. In the end I'm back here writing this blog. Well another Sat will be over soon....
